Our world

A Croatian nursery partner, rooted in Tuscany

Ulika supplies ornamental trees, shrubs, conifers and topiary to gardens, landscape architects and municipalities across Croatia.

Where the plants come from

Our range is grown by Romiti Vivai in Pistoia, the nursery district that has supplied European gardens since the nineteenth century. The Romiti family have been growing there since 1921, now into their fourth generation. Field-grown stock is transplanted several times before sale so the root ball is dense and fibrous; container stock is lifted and dispatched twelve months a year.

Why the name

Ulika is the Dalmatian word for the wild olive, a tree that routinely outlives whoever plants it. It is a reasonable standard to hold a nursery to: everything here should still be worth looking at in thirty years.

How we work

We hold no stock of our own. Orders are consolidated and shipped direct from the nursery by refrigerated transport, which keeps plants in better condition than a second handling would. Large specimens travel on pallets and are quoted per order. If you are planning a scheme, send the planting list and we will say honestly what is available at the size wanted, and when it is best lifted.
