Aesculus carnea

Red horse chestnut

Red horse chestnut opens pink flower panicles above palmate foliage, in a rounded crown of 10 to 15 m with a spread of 8 to 12 m. Hardy to zone 5B, it is a park and avenue tree that needs depth of soil to carry its weight of leaf.

About sizes
CLT is a container volume in litres, VRL the same in a decorative red container. M is a field-grown plant lifted with its root ball, MGR the same grown in isolation and wire-balled. RN is bare root, available in the dormant season. T is a full standard and POT a planter. Heights are given as a range in centimetres; trunk girth is the circumference measured at one metre. A larger container is not always dearer: a trained or grafted form of the same volume costs more than a bush, and the form is named on the row.
