Ilex aquifolium
English holly
The green holly makes an upright evergreen of 4-8 m with a spread of 3-5 m, set with glossy, spine-edged leaves. Dense growth and a good response to clipping make it a long-standing choice for hedges and screens, in sun or in shade. Hardy from zone 6B.

About sizes
CLT is a container volume in litres, VRL the same in a decorative red container. M is a field-grown plant lifted with its root ball, MGR the same grown in isolation and wire-balled. RN is bare root, available in the dormant season. T is a full standard and POT a planter. Heights are given as a range in centimetres; trunk girth is the circumference measured at one metre. A larger container is not always dearer: a trained or grafted form of the same volume costs more than a bush, and the form is named on the row.
