Lavandula angustifolia

English lavender

Lilac flowers rise above the evergreen foliage of this lavender, which is grown as much for its aromatic leaves as for the flower spikes. A light trim after flowering keeps the plant compact and stops the base going woody. It belongs in full sun on dry, well-drained ground.

About sizes
CLT is a container volume in litres, VRL the same in a decorative red container. M is a field-grown plant lifted with its root ball, MGR the same grown in isolation and wire-balled. RN is bare root, available in the dormant season. T is a full standard and POT a planter. Heights are given as a range in centimetres; trunk girth is the circumference measured at one metre. A larger container is not always dearer: a trained or grafted form of the same volume costs more than a bush, and the form is named on the row.
