Rhus typhina
Staghorn sumac
A low tree of spreading crown, 4-8 m in height and spread, with large pinnate leaves that stay green into autumn. Yellow flower spikes stand upright at the shoot tips in summer. The stout, velvety shoots and open branching count as much as the foliage.

About sizes
CLT is a container volume in litres, VRL the same in a decorative red container. M is a field-grown plant lifted with its root ball, MGR the same grown in isolation and wire-balled. RN is bare root, available in the dormant season. T is a full standard and POT a planter. Heights are given as a range in centimetres; trunk girth is the circumference measured at one metre. A larger container is not always dearer: a trained or grafted form of the same volume costs more than a bush, and the form is named on the row.
