Giant sequoia
Conical to columnar in outline, with shoots densely clothed in scale-like foliage. The young branches are dark green and take on a reddish tone as they age. It becomes a very large tree, so it belongs in parks, arboreta and open landscape rather than in gardens.

About sizes
CLT is a container volume in litres, VRL the same in a decorative red container. M is a field-grown plant lifted with its root ball, MGR the same grown in isolation and wire-balled. RN is bare root, available in the dormant season. T is a full standard and POT a planter. Heights are given as a range in centimetres; trunk girth is the circumference measured at one metre. A larger container is not always dearer: a trained or grafted form of the same volume costs more than a bush, and the form is named on the row.
