Spartium junceum
Spanish broom
Spanish broom is grown for its scented yellow pea flowers, which open from May through to August on green, rush-like stems. The leaves are few and deciduous, so the shoots do most of the work. It reaches 2-3 m by 2-2.5 m and thrives on poor, dry, stony ground.

About sizes
CLT is a container volume in litres, VRL the same in a decorative red container. M is a field-grown plant lifted with its root ball, MGR the same grown in isolation and wire-balled. RN is bare root, available in the dormant season. T is a full standard and POT a planter. Heights are given as a range in centimetres; trunk girth is the circumference measured at one metre. A larger container is not always dearer: a trained or grafted form of the same volume costs more than a bush, and the form is named on the row.
