Magnolia 'Betty'
Large flowers open red-purple and fade towards pink and lilac with age, so two tones appear on the shrub at once. Growth is deciduous and bushy, in time 5-6 m high and 4-5 m wide. Give it a position sheltered from cold wind, on moist but well-drained soil.

About sizes
CLT is a container volume in litres, VRL the same in a decorative red container. M is a field-grown plant lifted with its root ball, MGR the same grown in isolation and wire-balled. RN is bare root, available in the dormant season. T is a full standard and POT a planter. Heights are given as a range in centimetres; trunk girth is the circumference measured at one metre. A larger container is not always dearer: a trained or grafted form of the same volume costs more than a bush, and the form is named on the row.
