Picea abies (P. Excelsa)

Norway spruce

The traditional Christmas tree: a conifer of regular conical outline with dark green needles on horizontal branches. It grows to 20-25 m with a spread of 10-12 m, so it belongs in parks and on larger properties. Extremely hardy, to zone 2.

About sizes
CLT is a container volume in litres, VRL the same in a decorative red container. M is a field-grown plant lifted with its root ball, MGR the same grown in isolation and wire-balled. RN is bare root, available in the dormant season. T is a full standard and POT a planter. Heights are given as a range in centimetres; trunk girth is the circumference measured at one metre. A larger container is not always dearer: a trained or grafted form of the same volume costs more than a bush, and the form is named on the row.
