Fagus sylvatica 'Dawyck' (fastigiata)

Dawyck beech

Columnar selection of green beech, carrying tightly held upright branches to 12-15 m with a width of only 2.5-3 m. The foliage is plain green and densely set along the shoots, so the column reads as a closed vertical. Useful for avenues and screens in narrow spaces; zone 5B.

About sizes
CLT is a container volume in litres, VRL the same in a decorative red container. M is a field-grown plant lifted with its root ball, MGR the same grown in isolation and wire-balled. RN is bare root, available in the dormant season. T is a full standard and POT a planter. Heights are given as a range in centimetres; trunk girth is the circumference measured at one metre. A larger container is not always dearer: a trained or grafted form of the same volume costs more than a bush, and the form is named on the row.
